As a user of a continence or stoma appliance you are entitled to a FREE Appliance Use Review (AUR) every year.
How will the AUR benefit you?
The aim of the AUR is to:
Improve your knowledge and use of the stoma or continence appliance. For example the appliance could be a urinary catheter, a urine drainage bag or a stoma pouch.
Give you the opportunity to discuss how to use the appliance
Highlight any problems with the appliance
Give you the opportunity to discuss alternative ways of managing your bladder or bowel problem
Ensure you are storing the appliance correctly
Give you advice on the safe and correct disposal of the appliances that are used or no longer required
Make sure that you are not overstocked with appliances
What you need to know before asking for an AUR!
As a Dispensing Appliance Contractor who delivers your appliances to you, Clinidirect have pharmacists and specialist nurses that are trained to provide this service.
At your request a nurse will make an appointment to visit you at your home to undertake the AUR. Depending on where you live, you may be able to attend our offices or a clinic venue for a confidential consultation.
When you meet the nurse ask her to provide their identification badge. Before undertaking an AUR, you will be asked to give consent for review. The nurse will then need to make a written record of your discussion. This record will be kept and stored securely for 12 months.
It is the responsibility of the nurse to ensure that a copy of your written record, including your agreement, will be send to your GP and any other health care professionals that may be involved in your care.
Please note that the AUR should take no longer than an hour to complete. A family member or a carer may be present through the whole procedure if you wish.
